Ingredients
  

For the Sauce
  • 12 oz Fresh or frozen cranberries No need to thaw frozen cranberries
  • 1 cup Sugar Adjust to taste; honey or maple syrup can be used
  • 1 cup Water Essential for cooking
For Added Flavor
  • 1 tbsp Orange zest Can substitute with lemon zest
  • 1/4 cup Orange juice Can substitute with lemon juice

Method
 

Step by Step
  1. Rinse the cranberries in a colander under cold water, removing any stems and bruised berries.
  2. Combine all the ingredients in a medium saucepan: cranberries, sugar, water, orange zest, and juice. Stir gently.
  3. Bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat, then reduce to a simmer. Stir occasionally, cooking for about 10-15 minutes.
  4. Check the consistency; it should thicken and coat the back of a spoon.
  5. Remove from heat and allow to cool completely before transferring to an airtight container.
