- Preheat your oven to 375°F and lightly grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
- In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the finely chopped onion and sauté for about 3–4 minutes until it becomes translucent.
- Stir in the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute.
- Add the long-grain rice, whole milk, and broth, then season with salt and pepper. Simmer for about 5 minutes until most of the liquid is absorbed.
- Remove from heat and fold in two-thirds of the shredded cheese. Stir until fully melted.
- Spread the rice mixture into the prepared baking dish. Top with remaining cheese and sprinkle breadcrumbs.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes until the top is bubbly and golden brown.
- Let the dish rest for about 5-10 minutes before serving.
