Method
 

Making the Bars
  1. Preheat the oven to 325ºF (160ºC) to prepare for baking.
  2. Mix melted butter, quick oats, flour, and brown sugar until crumbly.
  3. Press two-thirds of the mixture into a greased 9x13-inch baking pan.
  4. Bake the crust for 10 minutes; then let it cool slightly.
  5. Melt ¼ cup of butter in a saucepan, then stir in brown sugar until smooth.
  6. Add milk, vanilla, and flour, stirring constantly, and simmer for 3 minutes.
  7. Pour the caramel over the crust, topping it with the remaining oat mixture.
  8. Reduce the oven temperature to 300ºF (150ºC) and bake for 20 minutes.
  9. Cool completely before cutting into squares.
