Making the Bars
- Preheat the oven to 325ºF (160ºC) to prepare for baking.
- Mix melted butter, quick oats, flour, and brown sugar until crumbly.
- Press two-thirds of the mixture into a greased 9x13-inch baking pan.
- Bake the crust for 10 minutes; then let it cool slightly.
- Melt ¼ cup of butter in a saucepan, then stir in brown sugar until smooth.
- Add milk, vanilla, and flour, stirring constantly, and simmer for 3 minutes.
- Pour the caramel over the crust, topping it with the remaining oat mixture.
- Reduce the oven temperature to 300ºF (150ºC) and bake for 20 minutes.
- Cool completely before cutting into squares.
