How to Make Caramelized Slow Roast Asian Beef Short Rib
  1. Prep the Ribs: Trim excess fat from the beef short ribs and pat them dry. Season with salt and pepper.
  2. Sear Ribs: Heat a skillet over medium-high heat with oil. Brown the short ribs on all sides until golden.
  3. Prepare Marinade: Mix soy sauce, hoisin sauce, mirin, brown sugar, garlic, ginger, and chili flakes in a bowl.
  4. Roast Ribs: Place seared ribs in a Dutch oven. Pour marinade over the ribs, add onions and green onions, cover and roast at 275–300°F for 3–4 hours.
  5. Reduce Glaze: After roasting, remove ribs, and simmer the braising liquid in a skillet to thicken.
  6. Broil (optional): Broil ribs on a baking sheet for 2–3 minutes for extra caramelization.
  7. Serve: Plate ribs over rice or vegetables, drizzle with glaze, and garnish with green onions or sesame seeds.
