Method

How to Make One-Pan Sweet and Tangy BBQ Sausage Rice
  1. Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  2. Sear sliced smoked sausage until deeply browned, about 3–4 minutes per side. Set aside but keep drippings in the pan.
  3. Cook chopped onion in the same pan until translucent, about 5 minutes. Add minced garlic and cook for an additional 30 seconds until fragrant.
  4. Add uncooked long grain rice, stirring to coat it in the pan’s flavors; toast for 2–3 minutes until edges are golden.
  5. Pour in chicken broth, BBQ sauce, and soy sauce (if using). Scrape the bottom of the pan and bring to a gentle simmer.
  6. Return the browned sausage to the pan, stirring together. Cover and simmer over low heat for 18–20 minutes until rice is tender.
  7. Let sit covered for 5 minutes after cooking. Fluff rice with a fork and season with salt and pepper to taste.
  8. Garnish with chopped green onions or parsley before serving hot.
