  • 1 tsp Garlic Powder

For the Sauce
  • 4 cups Water
  • 2 pieces Chicken Bouillon Cubes can substitute with low-sodium broth
  • 0.5 cup Sugar
  • 3 tbsp Soy Sauce use tamari for a gluten-free option
  • 0.25 cup Ketchup
  • 2 tbsp Vinegar
  • 1 tsp Chili Garlic Sauce adjust to your heat preference
  • 0.5 tsp Garlic Paste intensifies garlic flavor
  • 0.5 tsp Salt for seasoning
  • 0.5 tsp Black Pepper adds extra seasoning
  • 2 tbsp Cornstarch thickens sauce
For Garnish
  • 1 tbsp Toasted Sesame Seeds optional
  • 1 tbsp Chopped Scallion optional

Method
 

Preparation
  1. In a large bowl, combine the chicken with salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and lemon juice. Marinate for 20-30 minutes.
  2. Add the egg and cornstarch to the marinated chicken. Mix until well-coated.
  3. Heat oil in your pan over medium-high heat. Fry the chicken in batches for about 8-10 minutes until golden brown and cooked through.
  4. In a medium saucepan, mix water, chicken bouillon, sugar, soy sauce, ketchup, vinegar, chili garlic sauce, garlic paste, salt, and black pepper. Bring to a gentle boil.
  5. Create a slurry by mixing additional cornstarch with a bit of water. Stir this mixture into the sauce and simmer until thickened, about 2-3 minutes.
  6. Add the crispy chicken pieces into the saucepan with the sauce. Let it simmer uncovered for about 10 minutes.
  7. Serve hot, garnished with toasted sesame seeds and chopped scallions.
