Steps to Prepare
- Drain and rinse the black beans until the water runs clear.
- In a skillet over medium heat, sauté the finely chopped onion in a drizzle of oil for about 3 minutes; add minced garlic and cook for an additional minute until fragrant.
- In a large bowl, gently mash the rinsed black beans with a fork. Stir in your sautéed onion and garlic, breadcrumbs, egg (or flaxseed mixture), spices, cilantro, salt, and pepper until everything is well combined.
- Form the mixture into four evenly-sized burger patties, roughly ½ inch thick. Press them gently to hold their shape.
- Heat oil in the skillet over medium-high heat; cook each patty for about 4-5 minutes per side, until crispy and golden brown on the outside.
