Ingredients
  

For the Marinade
  • 1/4 cup Olive Oil substitute with avocado oil for a lighter flavor
  • 1/4 cup Lemon Juice freshly squeezed is best
  • 3 cloves Minced Garlic can be substituted with garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon Dried Oregano use fresh oregano (3 times the amount)
  • 1 teaspoon Salt adjust based on preference
  • 1/2 teaspoon Black Pepper freshly cracked pepper recommended
For the Gyros
  • 1 pound Chicken Breast substitute with shrimp, pork, or lamb
  • 4 pieces Pita Bread whole wheat or gluten-free pitas are great
For the Tzatziki Sauce
  • 1 cup Greek Yogurt make from scratch for the best flavor
  • 1 cup Grated Cucumber squeeze out excess moisture

Method
 

Steps to Prepare Gyros
  1. In a large bowl, whisk together olive oil, lemon juice, minced garlic, dried oregano, salt, and black pepper until well combined.
  2. Slice the chicken breast into strips and coat them with the marinade. Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
  3. Preheat your grill or skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the marinated chicken strips for about 5-7 minutes on each side.
  4. Lightly toast your pita bread on the grill for about a minute on each side.
  5. Lay the warm pita on a plate and fill with cooked chicken strips, tzatziki sauce, and your favorite toppings.
