Preparation
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 2-quart casserole dish.
- Layer half of the sliced potatoes in the dish, followed by half of the diced ham and onions. Repeat with remaining ingredients.
- Melt butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Whisk in flour for about 1 minute to form a roux.
- Whisk in milk gradually and simmer until thickened. Add salt, pepper, and paprika.
- Stir in shredded cheddar cheese until melted. Pour over layered ingredients.
- Cover with foil and bake for 60 minutes. Remove foil, sprinkle with Parmesan, and bake for an additional 20-30 minutes.
- Rest for a few minutes before serving, allowing layers to set.
