How to Make Hearty Baked Shipwreck Casserole
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Brown the ground beef and chopped onion in a skillet over medium heat until the beef is no longer pink and the onion is translucent. Drain any excess fat.
  3. Layer sliced potatoes in the bottom of a large casserole dish.
  4. Add the browned beef and onion mixture over the potatoes.
  5. Arrange sliced carrots and chopped green bell pepper on top of the beef layer.
  6. Sprinkle canned corn evenly over the vegetable layers.
  7. Mix the condensed tomato soup with one can of water; season with salt and pepper to taste. Pour this mixture over the layered ingredients.
  8. Cover the casserole dish with aluminum foil and bake for 1.5 hours.
  9. Remove the foil, then sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese on top. Bake uncovered for an additional 15 minutes.
  10. Let sit for 5 minutes before serving.
