How to Make In-N-Out Copycat Animal Style Fries
  1. In a skillet over medium-low heat, melt together butter and neutral oil. Add diced onions and a pinch of salt, stirring regularly for about 30 minutes until the onions are golden brown and delightfully caramelized.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine mayonnaise, ketchup, rice vinegar, sweet relish, sugar, and chili flakes. Stir until thoroughly mixed and set it aside to let the flavors meld.
  3. Bake or fry the frozen fries as per the package instructions until they’re perfectly crispy and golden brown.
  4. After your fries are cooked, layer on slices of cheddar or American cheese. Broil for about 3-5 minutes until the cheese is bubbling and melted, adding that sought-after gooeyness.
  5. Once the cheese is melted, top your fries generously with the caramelized onions and drizzle the special sauce all over. Serve immediately for the best experience!
