Ingredients

Candy Mixture
  • 2 cups Whole Milk Low-fat can be used for a lighter option.
  • 2 cups Granulated Sugar Brown sugar can be used for a richer flavor.
  • 1 cup Unsalted Butter Allows better control of overall saltiness.
Flavoring
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract Can substitute with peppermint or almond.
Optional Add-ins
  • 1 cup Chopped Nuts Pecans or walnuts add a lovely crunch.

Equipment

  • Saucepan
  • candy thermometer
  • Baking Pan
  • Parchment paper

Method

Preparation
  1. Line a baking pan with parchment paper.
  2. In a saucepan, combine milk and sugar. Stir over medium heat until dissolved, then bring to a gentle boil, watching carefully for about 5-7 minutes.
  3. Once boiling, add butter and vanilla extract. Stir continuously until thickened and reaches soft ball stage (approximately 240°F).
  4. Remove from heat and let cool slightly for about 5 minutes. Then pull the candy using your hands until it lightens in color and loses its stickiness, which should take around 10-15 minutes.
  5. Form the candy into desired shapes or pour it into the prepared pan for a uniform presentation. Allow to set until firm, about 1-2 hours.
