How to Make Mexican Beef Picadillo
- Heat the skillet: Warm a large skillet over medium heat. Add cooking oil and let it heat up.
- Cook the beef: Add ground beef, cook until browned (5-7 minutes) and drain excess grease.
- Sauté vegetables: Add onion, jalapeño, and potatoes. Sauté for 3 minutes until onion softens.
- Incorporate garlic and spices: Add minced garlic, salt, pepper, cumin, paprika, oregano, coriander, and bay leaf. Cook for 30 seconds.
- Add liquids: Pour in tomato sauce and beef broth, stirring to combine. Return beef and potatoes to skillet.
- Simmer: Cover and let simmer for 12 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Finish cooking: Remove lid, add frozen peas, and cook for another 10 minutes until potatoes are tender.
- Serve: Dish out servings with tortillas or rice, garnished with lime and cilantro.
