How to Make Strawberry Cream Cheese Heart Danishes
- Thaw Puff Pastry: Follow package directions for thawing, either at room temperature for 30-60 minutes or overnight in the fridge.
- Preheat Oven: Set your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Prepare Filling: In a bowl, beat cream cheese, sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth. Fold in half of the diced strawberries and optional food coloring.
- Shape Pastries: Roll out puff pastry to about 1/8-inch thickness and cut out heart shapes using a cookie cutter. Score a rim in each heart.
- Fill Pastries: Spoon 1-2 tablespoons of the cream cheese mixture into the center of each heart and top with remaining strawberries.
- Egg Wash: Whisk together egg and cold water. Brush edges of pastries with egg wash.
- Bake: Place pastries on the baking sheet and bake for 12-15 minutes until golden brown.
- Cool & Serve: Let danishes cool for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack. Dust with powdered sugar if desired.
