  • 4 cloves Garlic Fresh is always best for this recipe.
For the Seasoning
  • 2 tablespoons Smoked Paprika Substitute with regular paprika for less smoke flavor.
  • 1 teaspoon Ground Cumin Can swap for ground coriander in a pinch.
  • 1 teaspoon Black Pepper Use any type according to your preference.
  • 1 teaspoon Salt Sea salt is recommended for optimal taste.
  • 1 tablespoon Brown Sugar Coconut sugar works as a healthier alternative.
  • 1/4 cup Soy Sauce Tamari can be used for a gluten-free option.
For Cooking
  • 1 cup Beef Broth Homemade broth gives the best taste.
  • 1/4 cup Apple Cider Vinegar Can be substituted with lemon juice.

Equipment

  • Slow Cooker
  • Skillet
  • dutch oven

Method

Instructions
  1. Prepare the Brisket: Trim excess fat from the beef brisket. Rub smoked paprika, ground cumin, black pepper, and salt all over the meat.
  2. Caramelize Onions: Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add sliced yellow onions and cook until golden brown, about 20-30 minutes. Stir in minced garlic and cook for another 2-3 minutes.
  3. Combine in Cooker: Transfer the caramelized onions to a slow cooker or Dutch oven. Place the brisket on top, then whisk together brown sugar, soy sauce, beef broth, and apple cider vinegar. Pour over the brisket.
  4. Slow Cook: Cover and let it slow-cook on low for 8-10 hours or bake in the oven at 300°F (150°C) for about 3-4 hours.
  5. Rest and Shred: Allow the brisket to rest for 20 minutes. Shred the meat with two forks and mix with juices.
