How to Make Wisconsin Apple Kringle
  1. Prepare the Dough: In a large bowl, whisk together all-purpose flour, salt, and sugar. Cut in cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Then, dissolve yeast in warm milk and combine it with the flour mixture and egg. Knead the dough until smooth and refrigerate overnight to develop flavor and texture.
  2. Shape the Kringle: Roll out the chilled dough on a floured surface into an oval shape. Spread the spiced apple filling evenly over the dough, then fold and shape it into a loose oval or horseshoe on a prepared baking sheet, sealing the edges firmly to contain the filling.
  3. Bake: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Brush the top of the kringle with an egg wash. Bake for about 25 minutes, or until the kringle is golden brown and flaky.
  4. Add Glaze: Allow the kringle to cool slightly after baking. Drizzle a glaze made from powdered sugar and vanilla extract over the top.
